2019 Subaru Forester VS 2019 Ford Escape Comparison in Salt Lake City, UT

June 5, 2019

The 2019 Subaru Forester has been completely redesigned for 2019, and it's better than ever! Not only is this all-wheel-drive-equipped small SUV a marked improvement over previous Subaru Forester models, but it's also better equipped to handle life in Utah than competitors like the 2019 Ford Escape. These two SUVs may be nearly identical in price, but the 2019 Subaru Forester gives you much more value. Once you've seen how these two compare, be sure to take a test drive at Nate Wade Subaru so you can experience the Subaru Forester for yourself.

Subaru Forester vs Ford Escape: Interior

The 2019 Subaru Forester may be a "small SUV," but it certainly doesn't feel like it. You and your family will have plenty of room to stretch in the 111.9 cubic feet of passenger volume. The Ford Escape has just 98.7 cubic feet of passenger space. This means that both rows of seating have greater headroom, legroom, and shoulder room in the 2019 Subaru Forester.

Carrying cargo along? The Subaru Forester is great for that, too! It has 35.4 cubic feet of cargo volume, while the Ford Escape has 34 cubic feet. This isn't a huge difference . . . but that all changes when you fold down the rear seats. In this position, the Subaru Forester can fit up to 76.1 cubic feet of cargo space, considerably more than the 68 cubic feet in the Ford Escape.

Subaru Forester vs Ford Escape: Technology

Connectivity is key these days, and Subaru recognizes this. That's why every 2019 Subaru Forester comes standard with Apple CarPlay™ and Android™ Auto connectivity. While you can find these features in the Ford Escape, you'll have to upgrade and pay extra--they're not available on the entry-level model.

In addition, Subaru uses its cutting-edge technology to introduce the available DriverFocus™ Distraction Mitigation System. With this system, you'll be notified if your driving indicates that you're drowsy or distracted.

Subaru Forester vs Ford Escape: Performance

In terms of performance, the Subaru Forester outclasses Ford Escape. With its horizontally opposed SUBARU BOXER® engine, the Forester has exceptional balance and a low center of gravity that simply can't be matched by the inline engine in the Ford Escape. The Subaru Forester gets more horsepower and torque than the Ford Escape, but that's not all: it also gets better gas mileage!

Ready for off-road adventures? The Subaru Forester comes standard with Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive. By comparison, the Ford Escape comes standard as a front-wheel drive vehicle. While you can upgrade the Ford Escape to include 4WD, it will again cost you more.

Subaru Forester vs Ford Escape: Safety

Your family's safety is a top priority for Subaru--but you don't have to take our word for it. The 2019 Subaru Forester earned the 2019 Top Safety Pick award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, as well as "Good" ratings on all its IIHS crashworthiness tests ("Good" is the highest possible rating). The 2019 Ford Escape did not earn any IIHS awards at all, and it also didn't perform as well on its tests. It earned only an "Acceptable" rating on the driver-side small overlap front crash test, and it received a "Poor" rating in the passenger-side small overlap front crash test. "Poor" is the worst possible rating given by IIHS.

Subaru Forester vs Ford Escape: Driver Assist Technology

Every 2019 Subaru Forester, even the entry-level model, comes equipped with Subaru EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology. This suite of driver assist features includes Pre-collision Braking, Lane Keep Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, and Lane Departure and Sway Warning. Similar features can be found on the Ford Escape, but there's a common theme you may have noticed before: they're available features that will cost more to add.
