4 Things To Know About Your New Car Warranty - Subaru Service Questions in Salt Lake City, UT

A new car is a significant investment, and you expect a lasting return in the form of enjoyable, reliable transportation for years to come. That's what a Subaru can provide, and we stand behind that claim with a standard new car warranty on every new Subaru vehicle. The terms of the warranty are here:

New Vehicle Limited Warranty - BASIC COVERAGE is 3 years or 36,000 miles.

POWERTRAIN COVERAGE for all models is 5 years or 60,000 miles, whichever comes first.

But there's more you need to know, like what is covered, what isn't covered and how we make it right when something that's covered by the warranty malfunctions or needs repair. Here are the four most important things you need to know!

4. The Limited Warranty Covers Your Whole Car

While shorter than the terms of the powertrain warranty, the bumper-to-bumper warranty protects every single part of the car -- from bumper to bumper. If anything develops a problem or defect within the normal course of the warranty period, we'll fix or replace it at no cost to you. Courtesy of Subaru of America, everything from the multimedia system to the upholstery on the inside, the headlights to the antenna on the outside and from the engine to the four-wheel drive system under the hood is covered in some way.

The "limits" of the Limited Warranty are the conditions in which warranty protection would apply. For instance, accidents are not covered and should instead be handled by your auto insurance. You also won't be covered for unsupported uses, such as commercial use or using the vehicle improperly. You also may not be eligible for warranty coverage if you have used improper parts for repairs or had repairs carried out incorrectly.

3. The Powertrain Warranty Covers The Engine, Transmission And Other Essentials

For an even longer period of time, we stand behind the "Powertrain." That word refers to all the major components of a vehicle that enable it to drive around. Aesthetic, comfort or incidental items are not covered by this warranty, but the engine, transmission, driveshafts and other essential parts are generally covered. This way, you can rest assured that anything that goes wrong with the most expensive and essential parts of your vehicle are protected even longer.

2. Your Warranty Can Be Voided

However, keep in mind that this protection only applies to damage that is acquired through no fault of your own. Not only does this not cover accident damage (which should instead be covered by your auto insurance), it may not cover damage or defect if you fail to maintain your vehicle properly. You must have all recommended maintenance procedures performed at the proper time by a knowledgeable technician. This ensures your vehicle is being properly cared for, and won't suffer unnecessary problems due to neglect. That's why you'll want to keep good records and hang onto service receipts. If something does go wrong with your vehicle, despite all the correct maintenance and care, we'll step in and make it right at no cost to you!
