2020 Subaru Impreza 4dr vs Subaru WRX Comparison in Salt Lake City, UT

They're both quality all-wheel drive sedans by Subaru, but the Impreza Sedan and the WRX are very different cars. The 2020 Subaru Impreza Sedan is a small car that's more spacious than other sedans in its segment. It's a perfect choice for getting around Salt Lake City, and its standard all-wheel drive gives it extra traction that most other small sedans lack. The 2020 Subaru WRX, on the other hand, is built for performance. Did you know that Subaru has an impressive rally pedigree; Subaru Rally Team USA has earned 12 Rally America and American Rally Association championship titles? The 2020 Subaru WRX is a rally-inspired performance car that's built to give you the best of both worlds. It's like a daily driver and a weekend warrior combined into one car. On this page, we compare these two cars so you can get a better idea of which one is the best fit for you.

2020 Subaru Impreza Sedan vs 2020 Subaru WRX: Design

Though their body styles are similar, even a quick glance will show you that the Subaru WRX is geared more towards performance than the Subaru Impreza Sedan is. Its prominent hood scoop may be the most immediately noticeable difference, but it's not the only one. Front and rear underspoilers, a rear bumper with integrated diffuser, and low-profile trunk spoiler are all standard on the 2020 Subaru WRX, as is an exhaust system with quad stainless-steel outlets. A trunk spoiler is an available option on the 2020 Subaru Impreza, but not on lower trim levels. In addition, its exhaust system includes only a single outlet.

The design differences continue to the interior, as well. The 2020 Subaru WRX includes performance-design front seats with red stitching, and it offers Recaro® performance-design front seats as an available upgrade. The leather-wrapped flat-bottomed steering wheel also gets red stitching, and the aluminum-alloy pedal covers further increase its sporty look. The 2020 Subaru Impreza Sedan comes with comfortable seats, but they're not performance oriented. Red contrast stitching and aluminum-alloy pedal covers are standard on the Sport Sedan model.

2020 Subaru Impreza Sedan vs 2020 Subaru WRX: Amenities

Though you'll have access to great Subaru features on both of these cars, the 2020 Subaru WRX has more impressive amenities at the entry level than the 2020 Subaru Impreza Sedan does. Automatic climate control is standard on the 2020 WRX, as is a 6-speaker audio system. These features are available upgrades only in the 2020 Subaru Impreza Sedan. However, the Impreza Sedan does have an advantage when you get to higher trim levels. Both cars come standard with a 6.5-inch touchscreen, but the 2020 Subaru Impreza Sedan has an available 8-inch touchscreen. The Subaru WRX touchscreen tops out at 7 inches.

2020 Subaru Impreza Sedan vs 2020 Subaru WRX: Safety

The Subaru WRX and the Subaru Impreza Sedan are both impressively safe. However, the 2020 Subaru WRX does come standard with EyeSight®, a suite of driver assist features that includes adaptive cruise control, pre-collision braking, and other safety features. EyeSight® is an available upgrade in the 2020 Subaru Impreza Sedan. However, both cars have been very highly rated for safety. The 2020 Subaru Impreza and the 2020 Subaru WRX both earned the 2019 Top Safety Pick+ award from the IIHS, as well as five-star safety ratings across the board from the NHTSA.

2020 Subaru Impreza Sedan vs 2020 Subaru WRX: Performance

All the other differences between these cars are secondary; performance is where the biggest differences lie. The Subaru Impreza has a BOXER® engine that puts out a respectable 152 horsepower and 145 pound-feet of torque, while giving it up to 36 miles per gallon when paired with the available Lineartronic® CVT automatic transmission. The 2020 Subaru WRX, on the other hand, is equipped with a turbocharged engine that generates 268 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque! This engine is paired with a fully synchronized 6-speed manual transmission with carbon first-and second-gear synchros, though a Sport Lineartronic® automatic transmission with paddle shifters is available. Even with all this power, the new Subaru WRX can still get up to 27 miles per gallon.

Both of these vehicles have Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, but the 2020 Subaru WRX has other performance features that find it in a different league. High-performance track-tuned suspension provides a responsive and precisely-tuned drive, while the electric power steering has a 14.4:1 steering ratio for sharp, precise turns. Cornering is even easier with Vehicle Dynamics Control with Active Torque Vectoring. While the 2020 Subaru Impreza does come with Vehicle Dynamics Control, Active Torque Vectoring is an available upgrade, and its suspension is designed more for everyday driving than performance. The 2020 Subaru WRX also offers an available feature that the Subaru Impreza Sedan lacks: Brembo® performance brakes.
