2020 Subaru Forester vs Subaru Ascent Exterior

Exterior Differences

Many Subaru vehicles are equipped with roof rails which make it easy to attach all sorts of accessories like bike racks, ski carriers and cargo boxes. The 2020 Subaru Ascent comes standard with factory roof rails, but they're an additional option on the 2020 Subaru Forester. The 2020 Subaru Ascent also comes standard with sculpted alloy wheels, as opposed to steel wheels with covers on the 2020 Subaru Forester.

And while both models can be equipped with steering-adaptive LED headlights for superior nighttime visibility, the 2020 Subaru Ascent comes standard with halogen bulbs. Stationary LED headlights come standard on the 2020 Subaru Forester. The new Subaru Forester is also available in a special Sport trim level with matte black wheels and orange accents on the roof rails, rocker panels, bumpers and interior.

2020 Subaru Forester vs Subaru Ascent Interior

Interior Differences

The 2020 Subaru Ascent is a three-row SUV with seating for up to eight passengers. The 2020 Subaru Forester can seat up to five. That also means, when you collapse all the rear seats, the 2020 Ascent gives you more cargo space than the 2020 Forester: 86.5 cubic feet in the Ascent vs. 76.1 cubic feet in the Forester.

There are some feature differences, too: the 2020 Subaru Ascent comes standard with reclining second- and third-row seats. Reclining second-row seats are available on the 2020 Subaru Forester when you step up to an upgraded trim level. The 2020 Ascent also comes standard with tri-zone automatic climate control. You can get dual-zone automatic climate control on the 2020 Subaru Forester as an option.

2020 Subaru Forester vs Subaru Ascent Features

Performance & Capability Differences

With 182 horsepower from its BOXER® engine, the 2020 Subaru Forester provides plenty of power for all your daily driving needs. Naturally, the 2020 Subaru Ascent is a bit bigger and heavier and requires a bigger engine. It gets a turbocharged BOXER® engine that delivers 260 horsepower! With a Lineartronic® CVT transmission sending power to the wheels on both models, they'll provide similar acceleration and throttle response.

And since they both come standard with Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive and generous ground clearance, they can both handle frozen dirt roads and rain-slick streets better than ordinary crossovers. When tackling some particularly tough terrain, Hill Descent Control makes coming down steep slopes stress-free and X-MODE® optimizes the all-wheel drive system for loose, low-friction surfaces like dirt, sand and gravel. These technologies come standard on the 2020 Subaru Ascent, and they're available on premium 2020 Subaru Forester trim levels as well.

Safety Differences

Both the 2020 Subaru Ascent and Forester come standard with Subaru EyeSight® driver assistance which can help you avoid an accident before it happens! Features of this system include pre-collision automatic braking, adaptive cruise control and lane keeping functions.

On the 2020 Subaru Ascent, you can also get a 180-degree Front View Monitor, handy for maneuvering this big family vehicle in tight spaces. Meanwhile, the 2020 Subaru forester can be equipped with the DriverFocus™ Distraction Mitigation System, which can alert a distracted or drowsy driver to keep their eyes on the road ahead where they belong.
