Which Subaru Should You Pick — 2019 Crosstrek or 2019 Forester? | Subaru Model Comparison

2019 Subaru Crosstrek vs Forester Comparison Research in Salt Lake City, UT

How do you decide between the 2019 Subaru Crosstrek and the 2019 Subaru Forester? Start here! We'll explain below what sets these two impressive Subaru SUVs apart.

The Subaru Crosstrek is a compact SUV that shares many of its underpinnings with the Subaru Impreza compact hatchback. But, unlike the Impreza, the 2019 Subaru Crosstrek has a higher ride height, protective black body paneling and standard roof rails. That makes it a comfortable, efficient commuter with a little extra toughness and tenacity for gravel driveways, dirt roads and other travel beyond the beaten path.

2019 Subaru Crosstrek vs Forester Exterior

The 2019 Subaru Forester is also built to take on some tricky terrain! All-new for 2019, the Subaru Forester is noticeably larger with more room for passengers and cargo than the 2019 Subaru Crosstrek. That means the 2019 Subaru Forester might be a better pick for growing families.

What's the Same? 2019 Subaru Crosstrek VS 2019 Subaru Forester

Under the hood of both these vehicles, you'll find a Subaru BOXER® engine. Its unique, flat design allows the engine to be placed low and back in the engine bay, improving balance and reducing body roll - which is especially important for SUVs! And standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive allows both the Subaru Crosstrek and Subaru Forester to provide superior grip off-road and in bad weather.

On the inside, both these vehicles provide Subaru STARLINK™ touchscreen infotainment. Powered by Apple CarPlay™ and Android™ Auto technologies, you'll be able to easily manage audio settings, hands-free smartphone features and available navigation.

2019 Subaru Crosstrek vs Forester Interior

What's Different? 2019 Subaru Crosstrek VS 2019 Subaru Forester | Features

More recently redesigned than the 2019 Subaru Crosstrek, the all-new 2019 Subaru Forester enjoys a handful of exclusive features that aren't yet available on the Crosstrek. On the exterior, LED headlights come standard on the 2019 Subaru Forester; the Subaru Crosstrek has halogen headlamps as standard. And while an ordinary moonroof is available on the 2019 Subaru Crosstrek, the Subaru Forester is now available with a vast, panoramic moonroof for an open-air feel.

On the interior, the 2019 Subaru Forester is available with premium options like heated rear seats, dual-zone automatic climate control and four USB charging ports. You won't find any of those options on the 2019 Subaru Crosstrek.

That said, a few exterior details only available as optional upgrades on the Subaru Forester do come standard on the 2019 Subaru Crosstrek: Sculpted aluminium alloy wheels and integrated roof rails.

What's Different? 2019 Subaru Crosstrek VS 2019 Subaru Forester | Performance

The new 2019 Subaru Forester now generates 182 horsepower while earning an impressive 33 highway MPG. That's thanks to technologies like the engine auto stop-start system which automatically turns off the engine when waiting at long lights and in drive-thrus - saving more fuel. The 2019 Subaru Crosstrek is not available with auto stop-start technology, but it also earns 33 highway MPG!

The engine motivating the 2019 Subaru Crosstrek is slightly smaller, making just 154 horsepower - but the Crosstrek weighs less than the Forester, so acceleration will ultimately feel similar behind the wheel. One key difference? Only the 2019 Subaru Crosstrek is available with a six-speed manual transmission for those who prefer to row their own gears.

What's Different? 2019 Subaru Crosstrek VS 2019 Subaru Forester | Driver Assistance

Subaru EyeSight® is an advanced suite of driver assistance features that can help you avoid an accident. It enables features like pre-collision automatic braking, lane keeping assist, lane departure warning and adaptive cruise control.

On the 2019 Subaru Crosstrek, EyeSight® is available as an additional option - but on the all-new 2019 Subaru Forester, it's totally standard.
